Killed by SaaS

About Killed by SaaS

A weekly brief on software features vendors are removing, retiring or refusing to build, for indie developers and small studios looking for their next small product.

How an idea gets in

  1. Business buyer. Someone who pays per account, user or site.
  2. Dated demand with numbers. Votes, replies, views or installs from 2025–2026, with the link, date and a quote.
  3. No recent clone. We search the platform's marketplace and the web for 2025–2026 launches and list what we found.
  4. Buildable per the platform's own docs. We quote the API capability and flag restricted permissions and paid security audits.
  5. Small build. About three weeks or less for one developer.
  6. Distribution and billing exist. A marketplace where buyers look, and a way to get paid.

How we check our work

Every quote is checked against the page it cites before an issue goes out, first by a separate review pass and then by an automated check that fetches each page. Anything that can't be confirmed is cut or labelled unverified. Figures from third parties are labelled as such.

Clone tracker

Clones of retired features often launch within weeks. Every idea we've published is re-checked weekly and moves between Open, Contested, Cloned, Native and Closed. Each change is dated.
